What is a patient advocate?

Independent patient advocates, also known as healthcare navigators, are dedicated to ensuring patients receive optimal medical care and appropriate treatment in a timely manner. We advocate for the patient’s right to quality care, fairness, respect, and financial support, thus contributing to their overall wellness.

Patient advocates act as a common point of contact for all healthcare providers, family and other support systems. When loved ones are not available, we assist the patient with informed decision-making, provide helpful resources, note taking, appointment making and check-ins, and ensure that their diagnosis and follow-up recommendations are understood by all involved.

Medical advocates help prevent vulnerable patients from falling through the cracks of complex systems, thus ensuring their safety, sense of security, appropriate treatment and care. Learn more about what a Patient Advocate does

Chronic illness, injury and transitions can be complicated and overwhelming.

Here’s how we can help:

  • Simplification of the healthcare journey by clarifying doctors’ recommendations, follow-up instructions and medication protocols

  • Productive communication with healthcare providers, leading to more efficient, effective care plans

  • Knowing exactly what concerns to address and questions to ask, helping avoid misunderstandings that may delay treatment, or access to facilities and providers

  • Helping avoid delays and compromised patient safety

  • Enabling fully informed decision-making

  • Ensuring more positive healthcare outcomes for the client, and decreased burden on healthcare providers

  • Providing a support system throughout one’s healthcare journey that helps patients and loved ones feel validated, understood, and empowered

Meet Corinne

Corinne Hewko, Founder & Senior Advocate

“Corinne has been a tremendous help for me as I face a phase of transition as a senior. I find it overwhelming to deal with multiple issues at once, so she took the initiative to prioritize my needs, and guide me through what has been an emotional and complex process. She does not take over - I did not need her to - but she supports my efforts, and assists me in finding the answers to challenging concerns. Her assistance is priceless. I can always rely on her to keep my best interests first and foremost, and to advocate for me so I receive the care I need.”
